Top Car Accessories
Must-have accessories to upgrade your ride
Being on the road is a part of each day for many of us, and we’re all looking for ways to make the school run, commuting, day trips and holidays easier for both us and our cars to cope with. Therefore, we’ve put together a list of handy gadgets that we rate as some of the most invaluable when it comes to practically accessorising your car. Here are our top car accessories…
1. Extended charger
When you’re out and about with your tech, sometimes one USB port just isn’t enough, which is where extenders can come in very useful. Just as they would in a computer, these extenders simply plug into your car’s USB port, and distribute the power between their 3 or 4 ports, allowing you to charge multiple devices at once.
2. Car bin
With a lot of our lives spent in cars, it’s no wonder that they can often fill up with detritus. The presence of a car bin gives this junk a destination that isn’t your cup holder, door pocket, or, even worse, the floor! These handy containers usually attach to the rear of a headrest, easily accessible for everyone travelling in the car.
3. Car vacuum cleaner
There are some things that just can’t be put in the bin, and hauling out your domestic vacuum cleaner isn’t always an option, particularly for those hard-to-reach places. This is where a handheld vacuum cleaner comes in very handy, and there are several options on the market specifically for the job of cleaning up your motor!
4. Expanding cup holder
Grabbing your caffeine fix on the road and staying hydrated with your favourite water bottle can come with some practical problems if your cup holder isn’t up to the job. This clever gadget expands to fit your existing cup holder, offering a bigger or adjustable option above it.
5. Electric car blanket
The seasons are turning and the weather is getting colder - but that’s no reason to freeze in your car! Electric blankets for your car plug into the 12V socket, and keep you toasty if you or your passenger need to spend any length of time in your car in chilly conditions. Think camping or even a drive-in cinema!
6. Car phone holder
Mounting your phone safely for using its helpful sat nav facilities is important, which is why you need to do your homework when it comes to buying the best phone holder for your device. Choose a windscreen, dashboard, air vent or even cup holder cradle for your phone, and ensure it’s secure in its position and not obscuring your view of the road.
Remember to set your sat nav route before you set off, and stick to voice commands only - interacting with your phone at the wheel is illegal.
7. First aid kit
It’s not the most fun item on our list but it is the most important; you never know when you may need a first aid kit! You can either purchase a ready-made pack, or put one together yourself. Make sure it’s got the essentials, such as plasters, pain relief, antiseptic wipes and bandages, just in case.
8. Dash cam
We’ve talked before about the advantages of fitting a dash cam to your car, but we’ll happily reiterate: they’re a fantastic device for peace of mind! If an accident or incident occurs, they provide vital evidence, which is particularly useful if it proves fault. Some models fit dash cams to their car as standard these days, but there are many aftermarket options that can either be connected via the 12V socket in your car, or hardwired by a professional.
