Avalon's Guide To Common Car Safety Features
Technologies that help keep drivers safe
Technologies that help keep drivers safe
With a healthy stock of modern, high-quality vehicles on our forecourt at Avalon Motor Company, the safety features that our sales team have become familiar with are extensive. Whilst manufacturers are, of course, obligated to provide a high level of safety as standard in each vehicle, we have the pleasure of handing over cars to our customers that have extra features built-in, designed to make the likelihood of an accident smaller.
With so many cars in stock that boast this sophisticated technology, below we’re exploring some of the most common, to give you an idea of what it means to have a car with these features built-in, and how they can further bolster your peace of mind.
Lane Departure Monitoring
Many accidents are caused by cars drifting between lanes in transit, and Lane Departure monitoring was created to make drivers aware when they’re in danger of making this mistake. By using a camera located near or within the car’s interior mirror that recognises lane markers, it can detect when your wheel hits one, and can either simply alert you to what’s happening, or even steer you back within the lines if you do not respond to the alert.
Reversing Camera
The benefits of a reversing camera are pretty obvious, allowing you to see behind you whilst reversing, and make it easier to judge the distance between the car and anything behind it. The camera’s view is displayed within the infotainment screen, and some models feature parking lines that further enhance the accuracy of your reverse park. It’s important to note that checking your surroundings for safety is still advised.
Forward Collision Detection
Utilised when there is a real danger of impact, this feature could be the difference between an accident and a near miss. Using sensors at the front of the car, the system works by alerting the driver to a hazard close to the vehicle that it may collide with, letting you know that you should brake with urgency. This technology can work with autonomous emergency braking systems, which apply the brakes for you in the immediate danger of a crash.
Adaptive Cruise Control
On long journeys, cruise control can change the game, particularly in the case of adaptive cruise control. By using sensors, lasers and/or cameras that monitor the journey and adjust the settings according to the road conditions, making for a much easier drive For example, the vehicle can have been travelling at a steady speed until the traffic slows, at which point this functionality could adjust the speed to suit.
Blind Spot Monitoring
The area over your shoulder that’s difficult to see while you’re driving is a notorious cause of accidents, which is what this technology was developed for; to monitor this area using sensors and alert you to anything that might be an issue should you, for example, choose to change lanes at that moment.
Naturally, as a retailer of many used makes and models in Glastonbury, we stock many vehicles with this clever technology installed, and they’re ready and waiting to be discovered here at our Somerset used car dealership. Browse the full selection here.
